For over 15 years, we have supported the development of a front line of highly-skilled nurses and midwives serving poor communities in Africa, overwhelmingly in Uganda.
We are proud that our investment in the nursing and midwifery education of our Gretta Scholars has helped to increase healthcare access and contribute to real declines in maternal and infant mortality in Uganda, while creating opportunities for economic advancement for young people from poor communities.
We are no longer accepting donations, but our work lives on in the care provided by our Gretta Graduates and the increased capacity of those who teach nursing and midwifery. We are grateful to all those in our Gretta family who believed—with nurse-scholar Dr. Margretta Madden Styles, for whom the foundation was named—in the powerful and necessary impact of nurses around the world.
